Hand carved Large mouth bass Two blocks of bass wood and a chocolate lab named Mable. The long block on the right is what I used for this project Rough tracing and first pieces of wood removed Starting more detailed carving with power tools Finally done with carving and hours of sanding. Starting to burn the scales in. Starting at the lateral line and working down and around. Finished with the scales and ready to seal the wood. Clear polyurethane sealer and sand one more time… White base with gold rattle can to start with Couple hours with the air brush. I stopped because a green ink reacted with the white paint around the mouth to make a strange blue color. Fixed that mouth. Few more hours with the air brush on details. Found some eyes on a taxidermy website. Wood duck Started by gluing some poplar blocks together then drawing some lines and removing some material. The head is not permanently attached yet. Glued head on. Outlined some detail with a wood burner. Glued in taxidermy eyes. Started painting on the head. This was before I got an air brush and was all done with paint brushes Moving the paint into the breast. I had to re-do the speckled section a few times to get happy with it. Almost done with paint. Trying to get an iridescent look on the top was challenging Last touch up and outlining some details with black. First few coats of rattle can clear gloss. Final product
